What brought me to Bikram Yoga? I started the yoga in November 2002. I was getting tired of my daily exercise routine of walking on the treadmill in my home. A friend at work asked if I had ever heard of this yoga that's done in the heat. I am a cold-natured person (I take a sweater with me even in August), so this sounded great to me.
Once I tried it, I was totally hooked. I completely loved the way it made me feel. Sweating out all the stress of the day is so cleansing and invigorating. I had much more energy and tackled daily stresses much easier.
I started going 3 to 4 times a week, but that quickly grew to 5 or 6. After a while, I was going every day, with a day off here and there. It is such an amazing form of exercise. You truly work every muscle and bone in your body, and it is so great for you.
In addition to my strong faith in God, this yoga has helped me be more in tune with the world around me and my thoughts. Even when I feel as if I have no energy, I know that the 20 other people in the room will help me out. The teachers are always uplifting, always energetic, and they make class fun.
After a year and a half, I have no intention of stopping anytime soon. Each class is a learning experience, and life is all about learning new things each day. I'll be honest that it's not easy, but the rewards are completely worth the time and effort.
