Wow - What an honor to be chosen for May's "Student of the Month"! Many years ago I had a girlfriend who wanted me to try Yoga and my retort at the time was "yoga is for wimps!" During this stage of my life I was into aerobic classes, weightlifting, cycle classes and kickboxing. After many pulled hamstrings, back pains, rotator cuff injuries and only being able to sleep on one side due to these injuries, I decided to give "hot yoga" a try. My neighbor introduced me to Bikram Yoga and I was hooked after the first day. Bikram Yoga was a whole new experience for me physically. I actually felt more energized and confident when I came out of class. After several months, I noticed that my body started to change. My bulked up muscles started to stretch out and my injuries were not as noticeable. My shoulder injury was a perfect example of how Bikram Yoga changed my life. I had been to countless orthopedic doctors, underwent cortisone shots several times and went to physical therapists to correct my rotator cuff. None of it worked until Bikram Yoga - Grapevine! I now can sleep on both sides - yeah!
Bikram Yoga also changed me emotionally. In doing my Yoga practice over the last two years, I noticed that I was becoming more mellow. Before each class, I would take extra time to pray and center on becoming more balanced in my life. Basically taking the "don't sweat the small stuff" to heart. My confidence was boosted also. I felt the excitement of doing the various poses correctly bleed over into my everyday life. My next goal is to do the "Sixty Classes in Sixty Days" challenge. Now, I yearn to feel the heat and solace of the room and love to see the awesome attitudes that each of the teachers possess. Thank you again for bestowing this honor on me!
