I am honored to be named the November Student of the Month. I didn't show up for my first class under my own volition, but now I can't stay away. I am surprised by my transformation and have all of you to thank for that.
I attended my first class in May 2005, only after being challenged by my wife. What are you kidding, Yoga? How hard could that be?? Well it was hard (it still is). But I came back. Soon I was practicing an average of 4-5 times a week. This commitment led to many changes in my life. Waking up at 4:45 most mornings for class, even on my day off!! Drinking…. Water that is. Before Bikram, I never drank enough water. I love the heat & hot weather. I used to melt if the temperature was above 80.
I also spend a fair amount of time riding a bike & running. Bikram has helped make that a near painless experience. The increase in my flexibility and core strength has helped me recover quickly from long runs & rides. The Bikram breathing keeps me calm and relaxed. The discipline of the yoga helps me maintain my focus in other activities.
In the past I have watched several students complete the 60 day challenge. I was impressed at their dedication to the practice. I never thought I would be able to take my practice to that level. One day in September I mentioned to Jorina that I was "thinking about" doing the 60 day challenge. She immediately placed a calendar on the wall with my name on it. I protested, but did appreciate the motivational push she gave me. The challenge has allowed me to refocus on my practice and it is paying off. There are still some postures that are a struggle for me, but I feel better after every class.
Thanks go to my number one yogini for introducing me to Bikram Yoga. Thanks to Stacey, Sherri, Jorina, Jay, Carla, and Sami for all the great classes. Thanks to all my fellow students for the energy and inspiration you give me to make it thru class.
