January 2008 Student of the Month

What an exciting way to start the New Year and we are very humbled to be chosen as students of the month. We are fortunate to be able to practice together during the week. On weekends, we are usually doing the "switch out" with our daughters between practices. Lauren and Claire are always interested in who was the teacher, how HOT was the room and did we fall out of any poses. We hope to pass our love for Bikram on to our daughters and allow them to experience the incredible benefits at a young age.
As most Yogi's can attest, Bikram yoga has had a profound effect on us physically. We have both experienced changes to our physical appearance (core muscles) as well as a substantial change to our cardiovascular ability. We have found that as our practice has improved so has our running, swimming and biking. We all hear from the instructors that we will have more energy after the class and we truly do… Bikram is actually an energy boost for the rest of the day. Our eating habits have changed and we drink more water than ever before. Smaller clothing had to be purchased (the hidden cost of Bikram) but at least our wardrobe is now out of the 80's.
The "other" benefit has been a sense of calm that we never previously experienced. We have more patience not only with each other and our children but for most daily experiences. We truly are enjoying each day even the most routine of activities. I guess you can say that Bikram yoga has taught us the life lesson to stop and smell the roses and count our blessings.

We would like to thank all of the instructors for their countless words of encouragement, motivation, advice and overall positive attitudes. We have come to learn and understand to leave our "ego" at the door but we still enjoy the foot love when it occurs during savasana. We consider Grapevine Bikram our sanctuary and treasure every minute inside the "torture chamber."
On a lighter note, for those of you who have young children using your yoga outside of the studio can provide many benefits. When our daughters start their normal fighting for the day, David and I will take a deep breath and exhale. Doing Bikram outside of the studio… Priceless!!
