I first want to say how honored, grateful, and appreciative I am to be the May Student of the Month!
I have always been interested in health and fitness! I think it started back when I was 3 years old going to aerobics with my Mom. I remember watching her do Jane Fonda videos and always wanting to be just like her. I am truly blessed she taught me the benefits of fitness and taking care of my body, I believe that is why I have such a passion for it now, so thank you Mom,I love you! You are my inspiration and I don't tell you that enough (by the way she is 52 years old and looks GREAT in a bikini)!!!!
I played sports all through high school and college and picked up running when I graduated. I have been running ever since and thought that was my true passion, especially after running 2 marathons. Little did I realize what it was doing to my knees and body. After reading about all the benefits of yoga in my health and fitness magazines, I decided one of my New Year's resolutions in 2008 was to try it and see what all the hoopla was about. If I only knew what that meant!!! I didn't realize how many different kinds of yoga there was, but happened to find Bikram Yoga Grapevine because it was so close to my house. My first class was January 2nd 2008 and I have seriously done 120 classes in 120 days; however, I didn't officially begin my challenge until January 14th, so I'll be completing my second 60 Day Challenge in a row on May 14th (but who's counting?). WOW, I never would have thought I could do a 60 Day Challenge, let alone a 120 Day Challenge (thank you Leah for encouraging me)!
I obviously fell in love with the practice and was hooked immediately, but it wasn't just about the yoga, it was about the instructors, the students and the atmosphere! Everyone was so patient, knowledgeable, encouraging, helpful, and GIVING - I couldn't find a reason NOT to come back.
What has Bikram Yoga done for me? The better question is, what HASN'T Bikram Yoga done for me? After only 4 months, I can see huge differences in my body. I lost a few pounds and can actually see muscles I didn't know I had - I think the physical part is what most people talk about and want to know (because so many people struggle with weight issues); however, I believe the practice has done more for me emotionally and spiritually! It has taught me patience, discipline, and contentment. It has improved my self-esteem and made me more confident. My focus has improved tremendously and I KNOW I can give 110% in every situation because I have the strength and courage to fight (remember to breathe)!!!!! Yoga has made me want to be a better person and give back to others. Today, I put my entire heart and soul into everything I do. Yes, this practice can do extraordinary things in your life!
Everyday, I continue to be amazed at how challenging this practice is! I have to say, without a doubt; Bikram Yoga has changed my life! Thank you Stacey, Katie, Suzann, Sherri, Jorina, Jay, Carla, and Sami for everything you have done. What you do is a beautiful thing! Someday, I hope to have the same impact on others as you have had on me.
With love and gratitude,
Sarah E. Peck
