I am 52 years of age and have been participating in the Bikram Yoga program for 3 months going 3-4 times a week. Yes, I had difficulty with the heat the first class. But I was not discouraged because the experienced "yogis" told me that it would get easier each time and I would greatly benefit from the heat as well as the yoga. And they were right! I lost 10 pounds the first month and I feel better than I have felt in many years.
The first benefit I noticed was an improvement in my posture. Stretching the muscles in the front torso is vitally important for someone my age. Stacey and Elizabeth emphasized going at my own pace and enjoying my workout. That kept me from pushing myself too hard too fast. My progress in performing the postures has been gradual and consistent, which gives me a sense of accomplishment.
I have lost 2 inches in my waist and 1.5 inches in my hips. My arms are now firmer and I don't have the "droopy" upper arms. I work my abs all through the workout and my stomach is flatter and firmer. I look and feel younger and I love the comments that I am hearing, especially the ones from the special man in my life!!
